어린 티엔징은 어머니를 잃은 후 힘든 삶을 살아왔다. 아버지가 먼 마을의 유일한 의사인 티베트 고원으로 이주하게 된 티엔징은 아버지 곁에서 고독한 양치기 생활을 시작한다.
하지만 그의 삶은 위험으로 가득 차 있다. 늑대와 야생견 무리가 들판을 누비며, 티엔징은 곧 이를 깨닫게 된다. 다행히도, 그를 지키고 친구가 되어주는 떠돌이 금색 마스티프도 만난다. 새로운 위협이 마을을 공포에 빠뜨리자, 인간과 개 모두 서로를 지켜야 한다. 자연의 잔혹함과 인간의 잔혹함에 맞서는 이야기, 소년과 그의 티베트견 도제의 모험이다.

Life hasn't been easy for young Tianjing since his mother passed away. Forced to leave the city and move to the grasslands of Tibet where his father is the only doctor for a remote community, Tianjing finds himself becoming even more isolated as he works the lonely job of a shepherd.
It's a dangerous task as well. Wolves, packs of wild dogs and other animals prowl the countryside… something that Tianjing discovers all too soon. Fortunately, he also finds a protector and friend in a stray golden mastiff that comes to his aide. When a new menace comes to terrorize the community, both human and canine will have to protect each other. Standing against the savagery of nature and the cruelty of men, this is the story of a boy and his Tibetan Dog.
